Visit Egypt on Manhattan

Getting an individual performance by a goddess-like dancer at a secluded section of this exotic venue is only part of it.  And NO, we are not talking about a visit at a strip club here. In fact, Casa La Femme is just the opposite – a gracious restaurant with a traditional Egyptian Cuisine.

The place is what Rooftop NYC calls an excellent romantic date-spot! The combination of tented tables, amazing décor, grass-covered flooring, belly dancers and authentic dishes makes it a memorable experience. You feel as though you’ve taken a trip to another culture. The best thing is, you only have to make it down to West Village to dine like a Sultan. Don’t we love New York?

You can eat Michael Jackson for $25

Tragedy on the one hand can mean marvelous market opportunity on the other. The world is still reeling from Michael Jackson’s death just two weeks ago, but the return of Jackson’s media exposure may have provided some much needed economic boost for a small but fancy bakery shop called Cookie Road.

Located in Greenpoint on the corner of Franklin and Oak Street, this little bakery offers more than just cookies. The owners, Jerzy and Aneta Szot, are master artists as well. They draw detailed handpainted cookies of celebrities from Marilyn Monroe to the Beatles! Cost of a single cookie? $25! Nowadays, the shop’s new Michael Jackson cookies are ever so popular. $25 may sound steep for a cookie, but to eat Michael Jackson’s face, $25 is the biggest bargain you’ll find anywhere!

There is no picture of the $25 Michael Jackson cookie, so if you’re curious about what it looks (or taste) like, you gotta visit the shop for yourself. Meanwhile, Cookie Road’s website offers some tantalizing previews of their cookies.

Empire Room in Empire State

The Empire State Building will be home to a new, upscale cocktail lounge on its ground floor. There are now renderings of the Art Deco lounge, which will be called – appropriately – The Empire Room. The décor has already attracted some criticism, but the location in the mystical building will no doubt attract the who’s who of Manhattan.

New Bar at the Pierre

The famous Pierre Hotel, whose guestroom rates start at $895 per night, reopened its doors on June 1 after a renovation at the cost of $100 million. That price is certainly not so shabby, especially given today’s economic environment. The Pierre also opened a new bar, and the hotel hopes that it will become a top social destination for the most exquisite Manhattan residents and visitors.

The bar is called Two E, named after – believe it or not – its actual address: 2 East 61st Street. It opens from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and offers cocktails in the evening as well as the traditional tea in the afternoon. As for the décor, the Pierre retained the original reading room-like design, rich in woodwork and traditional columns. At the end of the day, if you can afford $55 for a rather elaborate afternoon tea, Two E may be just the right place for you.
