You want to watch Mad Men

1960′s. New York. Madison Avenue. This is where the advertising giants ruled the day, where they build the advertising industry from a field that was frowned upon to the multi-billion media mongul that it is today. It’s a fascinating world. These advertising guys called themselves Mad Men.

Enter a television show that is really creating some buzz: Mad Men. It airs on the AMC network, which you may not have heard of. But it has been winning a multitude of awards at the Golden Globes and the Emmys. And might I add, rightly deserved. It chronicles the story of Donald Draper, Creative Director at Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. The show delves deep into the ins and outs of the advertising industry, but what makes the story so powerful is how it provides a social commentary on upper class life in the 1960s. You’ll see a world where drinking and smoking is a sign of class, where there are real desperate housewives in the suburbs, where adultery seems to be commonplace, where women are seen as sexual objects, and where *gasp* there are not computers!

Life in New York has evolved a long way since 50 years ago. But if you think the modern social life is crazy? Think again. Watch Mad Men and get in on the buzz. The First 2 Seasons is available on DVD, and the 3rd Season premieres August 16, 2009.

You can eat Michael Jackson for $25

Tragedy on the one hand can mean marvelous market opportunity on the other. The world is still reeling from Michael Jackson’s death just two weeks ago, but the return of Jackson’s media exposure may have provided some much needed economic boost for a small but fancy bakery shop called Cookie Road.

Located in Greenpoint on the corner of Franklin and Oak Street, this little bakery offers more than just cookies. The owners, Jerzy and Aneta Szot, are master artists as well. They draw detailed handpainted cookies of celebrities from Marilyn Monroe to the Beatles! Cost of a single cookie? $25! Nowadays, the shop’s new Michael Jackson cookies are ever so popular. $25 may sound steep for a cookie, but to eat Michael Jackson’s face, $25 is the biggest bargain you’ll find anywhere!

There is no picture of the $25 Michael Jackson cookie, so if you’re curious about what it looks (or taste) like, you gotta visit the shop for yourself. Meanwhile, Cookie Road’s website offers some tantalizing previews of their cookies.

s-SOCIALITES-large

Well life in NY sure is curious. Would you ever think that a girl you don’t even know hacking into your voicemails? Sounds too strange to be true? Well, not quite.

Earlier this week, Ali Wise, who is a publicist for Dolce & Gobbana got arrested for hacking into a girl’s voicemail. This girl, Nina Freudenberger, apparently don’t even know Ali Wise personally. Speculation is that its about some guy that they’ve dated, but who knows?

The full juicy tale is just a click away! The Curious Case of the Hacked Socialite Voicemails

At Rooftop NYC, we say…Seriously? Seriously? Since when does hacking into voicemail make the news? But you gotta give it to Ali Wise, as peculiar as her actions are, she understands technology pretty well! And we thought only computer geeks knew how to hack into stuff.
