Electronic Music–NYC New Trend?

Labor Day weekend was the long-waited weekend for electronic music lovers. New York’s first rave took place on Randall’s Island, where 50+ world DJs (Armin van Burren, Deadmau5, Benny Benassi, Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Kaskade, etc.) performed for two consecutive days in an event called Electric Zoo. Even though electronic trance / dance music in the United States is not as big as in Europe or Asia, public interest is rapidly growing. This two-day long event have set a new benchmark and was a historic day for electronic dance music in NYC!

Whitney is back?

The last time we saw Whitney Houston on the tabloids she looked awful. She had the appearance of a badly worn out drug addict. Many of us thought she would be dead by now. Fortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. Somehow she pulled herself together and made it through rehab. Today she even released her comeback album I Look to You. Is she still good? How has she recovered? Well, see for yourself in Central Park tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/1).ilooktoyou280

We heard she is short on cash… So let’s just hope she doesn’t commit to an impossible tour that she isn’t ready for physically and mentally. We don’t want another star tragedy à la Michael Jackson…

Visit Egypt on Manhattan

Getting an individual performance by a goddess-like dancer at a secluded section of this exotic venue is only part of it.  And NO, we are not talking about a visit at a strip club here. In fact, Casa La Femme is just the opposite – a gracious restaurant with a traditional Egyptian Cuisine.

The place is what Rooftop NYC calls an excellent romantic date-spot! The combination of tented tables, amazing décor, grass-covered flooring, belly dancers and authentic dishes makes it a memorable experience. You feel as though you’ve taken a trip to another culture. The best thing is, you only have to make it down to West Village to dine like a Sultan. Don’t we love New York?

You want to watch Mad Men

1960′s. New York. Madison Avenue. This is where the advertising giants ruled the day, where they build the advertising industry from a field that was frowned upon to the multi-billion media mongul that it is today. It’s a fascinating world. These advertising guys called themselves Mad Men.

Enter a television show that is really creating some buzz: Mad Men. It airs on the AMC network, which you may not have heard of. But it has been winning a multitude of awards at the Golden Globes and the Emmys. And might I add, rightly deserved. It chronicles the story of Donald Draper, Creative Director at Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. The show delves deep into the ins and outs of the advertising industry, but what makes the story so powerful is how it provides a social commentary on upper class life in the 1960s. You’ll see a world where drinking and smoking is a sign of class, where there are real desperate housewives in the suburbs, where adultery seems to be commonplace, where women are seen as sexual objects, and where *gasp* there are not computers!

Life in New York has evolved a long way since 50 years ago. But if you think the modern social life is crazy? Think again. Watch Mad Men and get in on the buzz. The First 2 Seasons is available on DVD, and the 3rd Season premieres August 16, 2009.

Lace Bodysuits can amp up sexy and tone down slutty

We’ve all seen too many celebrities walking around with wardrobe malfunctions, exposing their private parts, and looking just downright slutty. I’m sure girls don’t want to follow in their footsteps, you want to be sexy, not slutty.

Well there is something on the market that is hitting the fashion scene: Lace bodysuits. It’s going to be the greatest fashion craze since the comback of tights and ballet flats. It’s revealing, but not too revealing, leaving just enough to the imagination. Just wear a loose tank or top over it, and you’ll look sexy as ever. Even Blakely Lively has declared her love for lace bodysuits, and we know from Gossip Girl that she is the definition of sexy.

The Standard on Railway

A recent article in the Financial Times describes a fabulous stroke of imagination, transforming an old, defunct freight railway in a busy part of Manhattan into a modern hotel with a great view of both midtown and downtown skyscrapers. The Standard can certainly be a great destination for all those looking for rather unusual hotels.

You can eat Michael Jackson for $25

Tragedy on the one hand can mean marvelous market opportunity on the other. The world is still reeling from Michael Jackson’s death just two weeks ago, but the return of Jackson’s media exposure may have provided some much needed economic boost for a small but fancy bakery shop called Cookie Road.

Located in Greenpoint on the corner of Franklin and Oak Street, this little bakery offers more than just cookies. The owners, Jerzy and Aneta Szot, are master artists as well. They draw detailed handpainted cookies of celebrities from Marilyn Monroe to the Beatles! Cost of a single cookie? $25! Nowadays, the shop’s new Michael Jackson cookies are ever so popular. $25 may sound steep for a cookie, but to eat Michael Jackson’s face, $25 is the biggest bargain you’ll find anywhere!

There is no picture of the $25 Michael Jackson cookie, so if you’re curious about what it looks (or taste) like, you gotta visit the shop for yourself. Meanwhile, Cookie Road’s website offers some tantalizing previews of their cookies.

Cupcake Wine has arrived

Hmm…selling alcohol by branding them with cupcakes, good idea or no? Well there is a wine company that is doing just that. They’re called “Cupcake Vineyards.”

Would you buy a bottle of wine described as such: “This is a soft and creamy Chardonnay with apple, tropical fruits, vanilla and spice.” Or “With smooth and supple tannins this is a soft, silky Merlot shows bright cherries followed by espresso mingling into a plush, silky mocha finish.”

Sounds apetitizing eh? For $14.00 a bottle, you can taste the cupcake wines for your own. Suggestion for next dinner party: cupcakes AND cupcake wines.
